About Us

The U.S. Aluminum Extruders Coalition (USAEC) is a coalition of 14 American extruders seeking relief from unfair foreign trade practices. In response to the flood of unfairly traded foreign aluminum products entering the U.S., we are seeking effective enforcement of the 50% aluminum tariff and support common sense policy solutions to protect domestic manufacturing and 200,000 American jobs.

The Challenge

Millions of tons of underpriced aluminum extrusions are flooding our country and harming our domestic industry, which has plenty of unused capacity that could meet U.S. demand for extruded aluminum products. This is causing significant harm for the $7 billion-a-year U.S. extrusion industry, threatening 37,000 direct and 160,000 indirect American jobs, and endangering hundreds of family-owned companies. Foreign producers are deliberately selling aluminum extrusions in the U.S. at prices far below what is fair or even possible for American manufacturers in order to drive us out of business. This practice violates trade laws, has caused thousands of Americans to lose their jobs, and threatens the jobs of thousands of others.

The Solution

Working together with our members, USAEC is fighting to save our industry.

Tariff Enforcement

The current 50% tariff on aluminum is exactly what our industry needs. However, without proper enforcement, our industry is suffering as importers take advantage of loopholes to undervalue aluminum extrusions entering the country. We need adequate enforcement of this tariff to stop the bleeding and effectively combat the unfair trade practices threatening the survival of a great American manufacturing industry.

USMCA Renegotiation

As the USMCA renewal period approaches, we are seeking the establishment of a minimum U.S. content requirement for manufactured aluminum products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico. This will prevent countries like China from using Mexico as a path to duty circumvention and alleviate the risk this poses to domestic producers.

Level Playing Field

U.S. companies and workers can compete with anyone, but only when foreign countries play by the rules. What foreign countries and importers are doing right now is not fair. This is why we need America First trade policies that promote free and fair trade to stop the cheating and level the playing field for our U.S. industry.
